Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (MWSC) has been recognized as the third-best performing water utility in Zambia, following the release of the 2024 NWASCO (National Water Supply and Sanitation Council) Sector Report.
In a remarkable turnaround from last year's ranking of ninth place among the 11 water utilities, MWSC secured nine accolades, marking a milestone in the company's journey toward excellence.
This recognition reflects the strides MWSC has made in service delivery, operational efficiency, and customer engagement. Among the key awards received were: Most Improved Commercial Utility Best Sanitation Coverage, Highest Collection Efficiency, Most Improved Metering Ratio, Best in Non-Revenue Water Management, Outstanding Operations & Maintenance Cost Coverage, Best Staff Efficiency and Most Improved Water Utility
Crowning this achievement, MWSC Managing Director Eng. Ndilakulampa Hamalambo was named runner-up in the Best CEO category, a testament to his visionary leadership and the dedication of the entire MWSC team.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Eng. Hamalambo expressed gratitude and emphasized the importance of building on this momentum:
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Government, our cooperating partners, and the regulator NWASCO for their unwavering support and collaboration. Your commitment has been instrumental in pushing our sector forward, ensuring that we provide quality water and sanitation services to our communities.”
He further encouraged MWSC staff to remain focused, noting that while these awards are worth celebrating, they also mark the beginning of a greater responsibility to ensure the improvements are translated into tangible benefits for customers.
“It is encouraging to see most of our performance indicators trending upward. However, this is not the finish line, it’s the start of a renewed commitment to deliver consistent and high-quality service to the people we serve.”
In his vote of thanks at the awards, Eng. Hamalambo reaffirmed MWSC’s pledge to work collaboratively with the other ten commercial utilities, leveraging shared experiences and promoting strong governance to meet the sector’s evolving challenges.
“We are committed to being adaptable and pragmatic in the face of environmental and operational changes. Together, we must enhance our resilience, prioritize sustainability, and ensure universal access to safe water and sanitation,” he said.
Eastern Water and Sanitation Company was ranked as the overall best-performing utility, followed by Southern Water and Sanitation Company Limited.
MWSC is proud of this achievement and looks forward to continued improvement, innovation, and above all, providing reliable and sustainable services to our valued customers across the Copperbelt towns of Chingola, Chililabombwe and Mufulira.
