Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (MWSC), in partnership with Government and local authorities, successfully commemorated World Water Day across its service areas of Chingola, Mufulira, and Chililabombwe, reinforcing the importance of inclusive and sustainable water management under this year’s theme, “Water and Gender: Increasing Water Access for Women, Men and Girls for a sustainable future,”
The commemorations, held at Kapopo School in Nchanga North (Chingola), Gasto Primary School in Kawama East (Mufulira), and Mine Market (Chililabombwe), brought together community members, civic leaders, and key stakeholders in a unified call to safeguard water resources and improve service delivery.

In Chingola, District Commissioner Howard Kamwandi reaffirmed Government’s commitment to enhancing water access through continued investment in water infrastructure. He emphasized that equitable access to clean and safe water remains central to national development and public health.

Similarly, in Mufulira, District Commissioner Evaristo Chilumba highlighted the critical link between water access and gender equality, noting that improved water services significantly ease the burden on women and girls while promoting dignity and socio-economic participation.

In Chililabombwe, District Commissioner Kelly Jibinga called for increased community participation in sustaining water services. He urged residents to pay water bills consistently, protect infrastructure from vandalism, and adopt responsible sanitation practices to reduce system blockages.
The events were also attended by Mayors, Town Clerks, senior district officials, and MWSC management, demonstrating strong multi-stakeholder collaboration in advancing water and sanitation goals.
These engagements underscore MWSC’s commitment to stakeholder inclusivity, community engagement, and transparent communication, which are critical pillars in delivering sustainable water services. The commemorations further served as a platform to strengthen partnerships with Government, local authorities, and communities in addressing emerging water challenges.
As part of ongoing Water Month activities, MWSC continues to champion awareness initiatives that promote responsible water use, infrastructure protection, and gender-sensitive approaches to water management.
Together, through shared responsibility and active participation, we can secure a sustainable water future for all.
