Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company (MWSC) recently hosted a media tour of ongoing water and sanitation improvement projects. The event was aimed at providing esteemed media colleagues with the opportunity to inspect and learn more about the initiatives being implemented to improve water access and sanitation in the service area.
In his remarks, MWSC Acting Managing Director Wyclif Kunda emphasized the vital role the media plays in sharing the developments with the public, highlighting their contribution as the "fourth estate" in fostering transparency and honest communication.
He reaffirmed that at Mulonga Water, transparent communication is at the heart of their operations and is key to building trust and understanding with stakeholders.
Eng Kunda highlighted the importance of water and sanitation in sustainable development. "These are crucial in improving public health, which not only benefits individuals but also strengthens the economy by enhancing the well-being of the workforce," he said.
He also noted how access to clean water creates opportunities for girls to focus on their education, instead of spending hours collecting water, positively impacting their futures.
While acknowledging that the current state of services may not yet meet the standards the company aspires to, Eng Kunda expressed confidence in the ongoing projects, which he believes will lay a strong foundation for future growth and improvement.
Despite facing challenges such as unstable power supply, limited financial resources, and incidents of vandalism and theft in the past year, MWSC is committed to addressing these issues. Proactive measures and strategies are already being implemented for a stronger and more reliable service in 2025 and beyond.
Eng Kunda also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the government for their continued support, particularly through the Zambia Water and Sanitation Project, which has been instrumental in the progress made so far.
The media tour included visits to four selected project sites, and participants were encouraged to engage with MWSC throughout the day to ask questions and share insights on the projects. The event highlighted the company’s dedication to improving the water and sanitation sector, with the ultimate goal of providing better services to the community.
The media’s involvement in this event was instrumental in ensuring the public stays informed about the crucial developments underway in the region. MWSC remains committed to making significant strides in improving water access and sanitation for the benefit of all.
